Introduction: A group of Polish scholars Organized, dttring the time of the German occupation in Poland, a series of studies of the history of German-Polish relations. These had, naturally enough, to be published secretly. The organizing side of the activity was provided for by the foundation in Warsaw, also secretly, in 1944, of the Instytut Zachodni (Western Institiute), which it was intended, after Poland should have been liberated, to transfer to Poznań. Actunlly it was so transferred at the beginning of 1945, and Since then has begun to publish works which were prepared during the time of the occupation. And so there appeared successively in 1945 and 1946 the monographs by M. Kiełczewska Zaleska, T. Lehr-Spławiński and Z. Wojciechowski, longer or shorter extracts from which are contained in the present volume. Z. Wojciechowski's book was Originally published during the occupation, having appeared from a secret press in January, 1943, under the author's nom de plume of Karol Szajnocha, and the title “Szkice historyczne” (Historieal Sketches), Vol. 1, Warsaw, 1938.(…)
