The Game of Real Life is a fun and simple way to cultivate these skills for living. The Game is based on the principles of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). The goal of DBT is to help us live in the moment, cope healthily with stress, regulate our emotions, and improve our relationships

DBT is an evidence-based treatment for borderline personality disorder (BPD) and emotion dysregulation. Dr. Marsha Linehan developed DBT in the 1980s, and the therapy has since been evaluated in numerous research trials and disseminated around the world. DBT has proven especially effective in reducing self-injurious behavior, suicide attempts, and emotion dysregulation. DBT provides clients with new skills to manage painful emotions and decrease conflict in relationships.

There are four sets of skills in DBT to help us achieve these goals: 

1) <em>mindfulness</em>, which is the process of bringing our attention to the present moment without judgment;

2) <em>distress tolerance</em>, which develops our ability to recognize painful situations and avoid being overwhelmed by them;

3) <em>emotion regulation</em>, in which we learn to acknowledge difficult emotions and change them;

4) <em>Interpersonal effectiveness</em>, which encourages us to develop better relationships by effectively asking for what we want and effectively saying no.

We created The Game of Real Life to bring awareness to DBT, and provide a playful way for people 14 and up to practice these crucial skills for living. The Game consists of 78 cards with 38 unique illustrations of the DBT skills drawn by Jesse Finkelstein. It was created in collaboration with Jesse, a doctoral student in clinical psychology, the artist Meredith Finkelstein, and the clinic DBT-RU, headed by Dr. Shireen Rizvi.

GRA PSYCHOLOGICZNA (ENG) Boundaries Conversation Deck: A 5-Minute Therapy Card Game  Kickstarter Edition

The <em>Boundaries Conversation Deck</em> has 52 cards to prompt reflection and conversation about your and others’ boundaries, needs, consent, and relationships.

The deck was developed by Dr. Faith, using her experience as a therapist and group leader, to help you consider your past history, current strategies for recognizing and relating boundaries, and ideas to communicate more effectively in the future. There are no right or wrong answers, only your answers.

There are two kinds of cards in this deck: 

Reflection cards are designed to help you become more conscious of your thought patterns, how they have been influenced by your past, and how you would like to shape them to better suit your present and future (and can also be used for discussions).

"What Do You Do?" situation cards are designed to help you consider potential scenarios so you can plan out strategies to manage them effectively.
